So, to warm thoughts of hearing the wonderful Barbara Nissman perform here on March 3rd! Barbara will be playing Prokofiev piano works, and I thought some may enjoy some of her past performances on youtube: the Third Piano Concerto, or perhaps the 6th Piano Sonata from a concert Barbara gave at Brigham Young University, or the Suggestion Diabolique played during an interview/discussion with David Dubal. See you at the concert in March! Stay warm!!
I thought my cat-loving friends might enjoy a video produced by the wonderful violinist Augustin Hadelich (who visited Pittsburgh in May, by the way, in concert with the PSO) Here is some info about the video:
"The descending figures in Paganini’s Caprice No. 17 have always reminded the violinist Augustin Hadelich of a cat’s meow. So he has made the caprice into a most unusual animated cat video — think “The Aristocats” meets “Intermezzo” — to accompany his new album, “Paganini: 24 Caprices.” And not to worry: Mr. Hadelich offered an assurance, via email, that he does not use catgut. “No — nobody uses catgut anymore (gut strings these days are not made out of catgut),” he wrote. “But actually, my strings are synthetic (Evah Pirazzi brand) and the E string is metal (Pirastro Gold Wondertone brand).” |
