I really SHOULD be practicing......but here is what is on my listening list for this week!8/18/2020
Hey! Come on and join me........here are a whole bunch of new albums out that are on my list for listening to this week (and perhaps next!) Fantastic Negrito, Have You Lost Your Mind Yet?, Bruce Hornsby, Non-Secure Connection, Jacob Collier, Jesse Vol. 3, Gloria Estefan, Brazil, (her new re-imaging and blend of Cuban to Brazil, musically), Bill Frisell, Valentine, (sit back in your favorite space and relaxxxxxxx!), Joshua Bell (with one of my fav pianists, Jeremy Denk), At Home with Music, Trio Machiavelli, Ravel and Chausson, (if you have never heard these pieces for piano trio, prepare to sink into musical oblivion!), Bosphorus Trio, Turkish Piano Trios (how about some exotic listening?), and another favorite pianist, Jorge Federico Osorio, The French Album. Choose your favorite streaming service, listen, and let me know what you think about my choices this week! Have any to suggest to me?
I cannot tell you how many time I listened to a recording I owned of Leon Fleisher playing the Brahms First Piano Concerto with George Szell and the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra......countless. I spent a good bit of time this morning reading different peoples' thoughts and words about him: from NPR, from The Slipped Disc, an older article by Alex Ross in The New Yorker, and also watched on youtube a masterclass given five years ago at the Music Academy of the West, among others. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with Leon Fleisher's playing, if you don't know it (although he suffered greatly from Focal Dystonia for many years and, horribly enough, lost the use of his right hand). Great artists live on through the memories we have and share.....pass it on.
